Stronger Online Presence for GAA, BAP
The Global Aquaculture Alliance has strengthened its online presence by re-launching its websites — www.gaalliance.org and bap.gaalliance.org — designed to better communicate its mission of advocating, educating and demonstrating responsible aquaculture practices to feed and employ future generations.
The new GAA and Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) websites made their official debut at Seafood Expo North America (SENA) in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, on March 15. They will be on display at SENA in GAA booth No. 481 and at the GAA membership and update meeting in Room 205C of the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center on March 16 from 3 to 5 p.m.
The highlight of the new BAP site is the search functionality for the list of more than 700 BAP-certified farms, hatcheries, feed mills, processing plants and repackaging plants. Users can refine their search results using the facility type, species or country filters, or they can use the search field to search by any criteria, including facility name, BAP certification number and country. Filtered results can be copied, saved as a PDF, exported as a .csv or .xls file or printed with ease.
Another highlight of the new BAP site is the map functionality, where users can find BAP-certified facilities geographically by zooming in and out on a map, similar to Google Maps. Overall, the new BAP site is designed to better communicate the scope and comprehensiveness of the BAP third-party certification program, which boasts more than 700 certified facilities and more than 1.4 million metric tons of product from certified processing plants.
The highlight of the new GAA site is the marketing toolkit, where retailers, foodservice operators, wholesalers and others can download and print consumer-friendly marketing materials designed to help them better communicate the benefits of responsible aquaculture and the BAP program to their customers. Currently, there are six marketing pieces in the toolkit, and more will be added soon.
Also on the new GAA site is a consumer-friendly webpage where the public can find information on which retail and foodservice outlets sell seafood from BAP-certified facilities, what species are covered by the BAP program, and why it’s important to purchase seafood from BAP-certified facilities.
