Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) Manager of Supply Development Marcos Moya was among the speakers at the 4th International Forum of Healthy Foods and Food Safety in Aguascalientes, Mexico, on Sept. 8 and 9.
The forum was organized by the SENASICA and SAGARPA, Mexico’s National Service of Animal and Plant Health, Quality and Food Safety. BAP was the only third-party certification aquaculture certification program invited to participate in the forum. Moya gave a presentation titled “Certificaciónes en Acuicultura” on Sept. 9.
The objective of the forum is to update and educate SAGARPA and SENASICA supervisors and auditors, of which there are more than 500 nationwide, on food-safety trends and new methodologies. Addressed at the forum were topics such as international health regulations, regional overview of food-safety initiatives, risk analysis, sampling and diagnosis, and national toxic waste monitoring and control program. In addition to the aquaculture sector, the program addressed the beef, pork and poultry sectors as well as the produce sector.
Health and food-safety experts from 22 Latin American countries attended the conference.
